Starting from next Monday, 1 April, those who are caught smoking in Orchard Road outside of designated areas will no longer be issued a warning by NEA. They will be immediately fined, as the authorities moved towards implementing the smoking ban in Orchard Road.

Smokers who flout the rules face a composition fine of $200 or court fines of up to $1,000. The three month warning period have been taken off, as NEA reiterated that the advisory period was to make smokers aware of the new rules. 

So smokers, please be aware that if you want to smoke at Orchard Road, better find that Designated Smoking Areas, or you will be at least $200 poorer.
